Well here we look at Ferrycarrig Castle in Wexford, Ireland. Castles were first built in Ireland 100 years after the Norman invasion of England. Ferrycarrig is one of those.
This 15th century castle located near the River Slaney is widely reported to be extremely haunted.
In the Saturday, April 15th 1882 edition of the Dundee Evening Telegraph newspaper a man called Mike Doyle told of his experience. One night there was quite the occasion held! A farewell funeral wake took place at the family home of recently deceased Biddy Blake.
There were literally hundreds of people in attendance and the whiskey abundantly flowed and bacon rashers cooked whilst folk danced and recalled good old memories of Biddy.
As the night progressed conversations turned to ghost stories and the occult. As a result the group decided they were in the perfect mood to hold a midnight vigil at the local Ferrycarrig Castle despite local warnings not to go near the castle, many believing it to be cursed.
Undeterred they crossed a ricketty old wooden slats bridge. They could hear mysterious and unexplained splashing sounds coming from the water underneath them.
As they approached the castle, to their sheer horror, they saw the undeniable apparition of a woman, she was screaming and running down a hillside with her arms flailing. The spirit threw herself into the river injuring herself on large rocks.
The men in complete shock fearfully returned to the funeral wake eagerly telling their friends what they just witnessed.
Six months later two of the men who saw the apparition had died leaving the remaining friends questioning if the tragic events were somehow linked. After all, they were warned.
