Business or Pleasure? Risque Spirits of The Alaskan Hotel and Bar | Juneau Alaska | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

Often times, the more you consider a places history, the more hauntingly fascinating it becomes.

This quaint Victorian styled hotel in Juneau Alaska was first erected in 1913, amidst the Gold Rush, and is today Juneaus' oldest operating hotel.

Juneau was an original frontier mining and steamship town and is a true landmark of cultural significance.

The hotel announced its opening by way of a grand Champagne Ball and Gala. One reporter described the hotel as "a pocket version of the very finest hostelry on the West Coast".

The Alaskan Bar was voted 'best bar in America' by Esquire magazine, retaining its original Queen Anne era charm, beautiful bay windows, wooden alcoves, antique wall telephones, Tiffany art replicas, stained glass features and quirky flannel furniture.

Set in central downtown Alaska and within walking distance of many great tourist attractions. The bar features an entertainment stage and is often the towns focal point for music events.

It is alleged that Room 315, on the third floor, is actively haunted and will leave you feeling most uncomfortable. Many guests report to hearing unexplained piercing screaming sounds coming from this room. Owner Bettye Adams states "I just - it's creepy, you know, I feel things here".

One night a Navy seaman actually requested to stay in the haunted room because he was seeking to encounter paranormal activity. What happened next was horrific. His room door locked, and the man jumped from his window. Police arrived to the scene to witness the mans terrible injuries and the room was 'drenched in blood'. Thankfully the sailor survived. To this day nobody knows what really happened in Room 315.

Was some kind of violent malevolent entity unleashed on the man?

However, it has been rumoured that during the hotels early years, the glitz and glamour was a guise, to concealing something else. Prostitution and illegal substance sales were not uncommon. This was the era of the 'speakeasy' and this hotel has operated as a brothel twice, one time illegally, the second time legally.

The most notable ghost to haunt the Alaskan Hotel is the wife of an old gold miner who managed the hotel. Yet, whilst her husband was away mining, she also had dealings in operations of another kind, prostitution.

When the husband discovered these events, he killed her. Many guests have reported witnessing this 'sensual spirit' lingering around the place.

It has been said that 'you will never feel alone' drinking at The Alaskan Bar saloon area (pictured below). Keep watch for the risque ghost as she may well approach you. If you hear the words 'business or pleasure' whispered in your ear, well only you can answer that.

In 1978 the hotel was listed on the NRHP National Register of Historic Places and present  owners, Mike and Bettye Adams, have wonderfully renovated the property.
