Demonic Laughter And Frightened Pets At The Thurbur House | Columbus Ohio | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

The Thurbur House in Columbus, Ohio, is a historical home turned museum once resided in by world renowned cartoonist James Thurbur. But did you know this place is so haunted that many refuse to enter.

Constructed in 1873, the property changed hands several times and in 1984 a dedicated group of volunteers purchased the site and opened it as museum. The first two floors are open to the public today with the third floor being reserved as a writers rental space.

Hauntings include the sighting of James Thurbur himself who, in life, continually reported hearing disembodied footsteps running throughout the home and later claimed he even came face to face with a ghost. Thurbur wrote a short novel about his experiences called ‘The Night The Ghost Got In’. Hit our book purchase link below for your very own copy.

It is speculated that a previous tenant who lived here was informed that his wife was having an extramarital affair. One night he literally caught his wife and her lover in the act. He grabbed a pistol and took his own life. This apparition has been seen on numerous occasions sporting a gunshot wound to the head.

There is a centuries old clock which staff have tried to open for many years. The face closure of the clock was sealed tight shut and would not move even after many attempts. One day in front of a whole room of students, the clock face popped open unaided, as if manipulated by invisible hands.

Books fly from shelves unaided and the apparition of a male is often seen through the parlour mirror. However, if you turn quickly to see him he vanished into thin air.

Many visitors report that animals react very strangely to the property and one family described hearing terrifying demonic laughter as if following them around the museum.

It is suggested that animals are visibly unsettled when entering the museum.

Animals are very sensitive to the paranormal and detect entities readily.

Are these animals seeing something we are not? Maybe they are seeing the demons that we hear laughing.

What do you think?

Are pets more receptive to seeing ghosts?
