Idaho The Perfect Time Piece | Echoes of The Past | Beautifully Abandoned Hauntingly Historical Landmarks | Idaho | Heritage | BoiCGH

I don't know about you, but I have always found abandoned sites not only to be remarkable places of historical interest but aesthetically beautiful too. Just the fact that they still stand leaves much to be said about them as they breathe echoes of the past.

The great thing is, we don't have to look far as Idaho has so many!

Let's take a look at a few.

SHOSHONE ODD FELLOWS BUILDING

Originally established by the first of its kind, 'unisex' fraternal, Independent Order of the Odd Fellows and The Rebekahs which first originated in Baltimore. Todays present site owners have high hopes of restoring this landmark to its original glory so watch this space.

PEARL GOLD MINE

Located not too far from the Boise Metro area, this site was once a tiny, but booming, mining town sustained by the wealth which came from the Pearl Gold Mine! Now there are but a few barns and road sign, a gentle reminder of yesteryear.

OLD AMERICAN FALLS

This impressive 94ft high dam was first erected in the 1920s with its own original Oneider grain elevator. Recently a 75,000 prehistoric fossil skull was discovered here making this site our most historical to date! Delve a little deeper and you just might glimpse its underwater ghost town.

MOUNTAIN HOME TITAN MISILE SILO

Nuclear history right here in Ada County Idaho. These Cold War era missile silos were once hidden deep in the Boise desert. The 569-C Titan missile, American first line of defence against the Soviet Union was contained within an underground command centre interconnected with a network tunnel system. There are three such command centres within Idaho. Of course the missiles were removed but we are sure you will agree it doesn't get much better than this when it comes to historical sites.

MACDOUGALL AIRPORT POCATELLO

This airport was decommissioned in 1951 and is now rural farming land.  Harry Owens MacDougall was one of WW1s best serving soldiers and was from Idaho. MacDougall died in service and the City named the airport in his honour, today a poignant reminder of Idahos real heroes.

Do you know, astonishingly, some folks call these landmarks 'Ruins' but that doesn't really just do them justice. They make great photograph captures as they elude a certain nostalgia and mystery, sadly not something we see much of in todays world. And every day that we learn a little more history is a day well spent.

Idaho will continue to cherish them every single day and never allow them to be 'forgotten' because all we really have is 'time' which makes Idaho the 'perfect time piece'.
