Ghostly Greeters and Underground Burial Vaults at St Marks Church Of The Bowery | Manhattan New York | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

Here at Boise City Ghost Hunters we thrive on not only bringing you accounts of the unexplained, but in providing historical fact.

Because without history, there is nothing.

Creepy cathedrals, prestigious theatres and unexplained phenomena.

New York does not disappoint.

St Marks Church-Of-The-Bowery is an Episcopal church in East Manhattan, New York City. This is the oldest site of religious worship in the whole of New York, being over three hundred and fifty years old, and the first Parish of its kind within Manhattan.

The surroundings communities are renowned for being passionate about all things arts and literature. Duly, in 1911, Reverend William Guthrie founded the St. Marks Arts Committee which pushed the area to the forefront as a vibrant sector of Manhattan today.

Intricately stunning stained glass windows, Egyptian Revival stone pillars with a replica of the original Andrea della Robbia ‘Alter of Annunciation’ circa 1475 contained within the main hall, this is a truly sacred and monumental historical location.

In 1651 land was purchased from The Dutch West India Company, by Petrus Stuyvesant, Director General of New Netherland. Petrus dreamed of creating a community bowery (plantation) and small family chapel.

In 1828 they added an exquisite steeple to the chapel which later suffered tremendous damage in a fire.

Restoration cost a phenomenal $500,000 and was completed in 1986. St Marks is thriving, hosts multiple services today, and offers walking tours available for those interested.

There are burial vaults and tombs in the surrounding land with some notable names being buried there. Petrus himself was buried here.

There have been reports by church attendees, and visitors, of the sounds of repetitive chantings, sightings of ominous floating lights, extreme temperature fluctuation and inexplicable chills.

Dark shadow figures and the clanging of the church bell suddenly ringing out when unattended are all pretty routine happenings for those who attend here.

Could Petrus Stuyvesant be residually residing here today?

What do you think?

Others have claimed to seeing a full spectrum female apparition who waits at the entrance as if greeting the living congregations today.

How would you react if you witnessed a full spectrum apparition?

Have you ever witnessed something you could not explain?

How did that make you feel?
