Ghosts Who Manipulate Electronics | Kings Chapel and Burial Ground | Boston Massachusetts | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

Do you know what's even creepier than a cemetery?

A haunted historical chapel and burial ground.

Kings Chapel and Burial Ground in Boston Massachusetts is over three hundred years old and is steeped in breathtaking history.

First established in 1686, Kings Chapel on Tremont Street was Bostons very first Anglican church. Beautifully constructed using local granite and iron. The chapel sits on Massachusetts oldest burial ground, established in 1688.

The chapel interior is hailed as 'the finest example of Georgian architecture in the United States'.

Inside the chapel you will find the oldest known American pulpit which is still used today, it doesn't get much more historical than that! This pulpit was designed by Peter Harrison who was a renowned Rhode Island architect.

Harrison presented the ingenious idea of building around the already existing wooden pulpit, securing it in a layer of solid concrete, so that congregations could continue enjoying worship ceremonies for years to come.

There is an original tower bell, which was forged across the pond in England in 1772. The bell sustained a superficial crack and was re-cast in 1816 and this bell still rings proud today.

The 'Joseph Tapping Stone' located to the front of the grounds is known as Bostons most beautiful headstone, and depicts an illustration of father and son skeletons battling over the eventuality of impending death. See actual photograph below.

The chapel was announced a Unitarian congregation under the ministry of James Freeman who revised the Unitarian Freemans Book of Common Prayer, its ninth edition is still used today.

There are lots of notable members who have attended this chapel including Governors, Senators, George Washington, Abigail Adams and Paul Revere, John Winthrop and Plymouth Pilgrim Mary Chilton who was the first lady to step off the Mayflower.

However, there may be more than history lurking inside this hauntingly beautiful sanctuary. The chapel attracts thousands of paranormal enthusiasts as it is believed one of the most haunted locations in America. It is rumoured that this burial ground is so much more than just a resting place and many have reported supernatural and unexplained occurrences whilst visiting.

Hundreds of visitors report seeing the ghost of Captain Kidd, an age old pirate who was buried here, with some even stating they heard his audible voice. One family describe how they stood in awe watching dancing light anomalies orchestrate around them.

If you take photographs or record a video whilst here do not be surprised if that content cannot be sourced on your devices ever again. It is suggested that the spirits here do not like being recorded and will actually manipulate your electronic devices to ensure your content is no longer available.

There is a tale that a man was actually buried alive here and also that a recently deceased woman had her head chopped off by gravediggers when they discovered she was too tall for her burial plot.

There were hundreds of headstones which were unearthed and relocated. We all know this to be seen an act of gross misconduct and lack of respect amongst the spirit realm.

So it should come as no surprise when we hear of supernatural entities being witnessed here. Many spirits are alleged to manifest once darkness falls, aimlessly prowling the midnight hours.

Are these souls seeking their rightful resting places today?

Why not go and see for yourself.

Just remember, to respect the dead.

The site is now managed by the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department who offer The Freedom Trail which offers some great historical finds and brilliant insightful programmes and exhibits.

Interesting to note that this site inspired author Nathaniel Hawthorne to pen his novel The Scarlet Letter, after he admired the intricate headstones.
