Hidden Treasure | City of Rocks National Reserve | Almo, Idaho | Historical | Heritage | Idaho | BoiCGH

City of Rocks National Reserve is located in Almo, Idaho.

The Idaho / Utah border is continually frequented by geologists. There are granite deposits here which date back over two billion years and boulders measuring over 600ft tall!

Come and discover Western Americas most ancient rocks, we promise you won't find rock formations like this anywhere else in the world.

So just how did these rocks even come to be here in the first place?

'Exfoliation' is an erosion process where rocks are shaped by natural erosion processes involving wind force, movement and extreme weather conditions initiating structural contractions.

There are still some visible wagon wheel trail marks deep in the rocks and hand painted names on specific rocks 'Register Rock' which were written by travellers, usually Californian homesteaders, Salt Lake expeditors and fur trappers, as far back as the 1800s when the trail was also used as a freight route from Kelton to Utah.

There are rumours that there is still some hidden treasure at this location from when stagecoaches were looted, so who knows just what you might discover!

Why not get the family together and enjoy a day of unforgettable rock climbing at another great historical landmark.

History in our hands.
