In Your Room | Exorcist | Depeche Mode | Thoughts | Music | Movies | BoiCGH

From the first time I ever heard the song In You Room from Depeche Mode's Songs of Faith and Devotion album I felt it was about The Exorcist...

The earie melody(especially on the Zephyr Mix) sets up for a story I feel screams The Exorcist.  "In your room-Where time stands still-Or moves at your will-Will you let the morning come soon-Or will you leave me lying here-In your favorite darkness-Your favorite half-light-Your favorite consciousness-Your favorite slave-In your room-Where souls disappear-Only you exist here-Will you lead me to your armchair-Or leave me lying here-Your favorite innocence-Your favorite prize-Your favorite smile-Your favorite slave..."  These lyrics immediately place me in Regan's room.   Where her time stands still.  Only finding movement when the demon allows.  I envision Regan's mind just waiting for the morning.  The light when the demon leaves.  All while she is controlled like a slave by the dark presence that has possessed her.  She was an innocent girl that out of curiousity spoke with a ouija board.  Thus opening herself vulnerably to her dark fate...  The ultimate prize for the demon.

The possession takes complete control of Regan.  It takes control of her breath and her skin.  As well as every word she says and language she speaks...  The demon has every ability to move objects.  Create freezing cold temperatures.

"Your burning eyes-Cause flames to arise-Will you let the fire die down soon..."  It was reported that there was a fire on the original set of The Exorcist.  Everything on the set except for Regan's room(the possession room) was still intact.  The fire reportedly delayed shooting for 6 weeks.

Depeche Mode's In Your Room was a song about one person exerting power over another person physically and intimately.  Obviously there are many similarities between real life abuse and spiritual.  I have never been able to hear this song as anything other than the story of Regan MacNeil.  Listen for yourself.  I have the complete lyrics posted below as well via MusixMatch.

In You Room - Depeche Mode
In your room - Where time stands still - Or moves at your will - Will you let the morning come soon - Or will you leave me lying here - In your favorite darkness
Your favorite half-light - Your favorite consciousness - Your favorite slave - In your room
Where souls disappear - Only you exist here - Will you lead me to your armchair
Or leave me lying here - Your favorite innocence - Your favorite prize
Your favorite smile - Your favorite slave
I'm hanging on your words - Living on your breath - Feeling with your skin
Will I always be here - I'm hanging on your words - Living on your breath
Feeling with your skin - Will I always be here - Hanging on your words
Living on your breath - Feeling with your skin - Will I always be here - In your room
Your burning eyes - Cause flames to arise - Will you let the fire die down soon
Or will I always be here - Your favorite passion - Your favorite game
Your favorite mirror - Your favorite slave
I'm hanging on your words - Living on your breath - Feeling with your skin
Will I always be here - I'm hanging on your words - Living on your breath
Feeling with your skin - Will I always be here - I'm hanging on your words
Living on your breath - Feeling with your skin - Will I always be here
Hanging on your words - Living on your breath - Feeling with your skin
Will I always be here
