Speaking With The Dead At Supernatural Waterfront | Dark Salem | The Derby Waterfront | Salem City Massachusetts | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

Salem City, Essex County, Massachusetts, is a historical coastal town and home to the Satanic Temple, House of The Seven Gables and location of the infamous Salem Witch Trials of 1692.

Salem has a notoriously dark reputation with its cultural identity tightly knit with sinister history, paranormal phenomena and witchcraft, so much so that even the Police patrol cars proudly display 'Witch County' logos.

The Derby Waterfront, was originally a row of taverns located at Derby Wharf. This area was originally established in 1762 by Elias Hasket Derby Senior, a member of the Salem Maritime Society, and is now a thriving modern day sector of cafes and stores still set along a beautiful and timeless waterfront.

However, this quayside is rumoured to be actively haunted by many supernatural spectres, mainly spirits of sailors. Two popular restaurants believed haunted today are The Witches Brew and The Mercy Tavern.

During the early 17th century, the waterfront was a hotbed of illegal activity. Sailors would moor their boats and then use the network of underground tunnels to access the red light district brothels and the area was rife with mysterious kidnaps.

It is speculated that the spirits of those old sailors haunt the waterfront today. Many visitors report unsettling disembodied voices drifting across the night tides and some have even reported interacting with old ghostly Sea Captains.

Locals here claim that ghostly pirates residually roam the city today. Many have described visibly watching these pirates emerge from the waters, walk to the shore, and disappear shortly after.

Could it be these pirates are not quite ready to break loose from their earthly maritime ties? This would be classed as a RESIDUAL HAUNTING, whereby a spirit will cling to a place they were emotionally attached to in life. They find solace there. However residual hauntings will not interact but rather manifest as a 'recorded moving picture', repeating the same motions over and over again. Sometimes footsteps or knockings may be heard during a residual occurrence and high levels of humidity detected.

There have also been reports of INTELLIGENT HAUNTINGS at the main dock area. These entities enjoy readily interacting and are more than capable or audibly and physically communicating with the living. So keep your eyes out for old sea merchants who seem to look a little out of place.

One thing we can say is that if you visit the Derby Waterfront today, know that you could be literally be speaking with the dead.
