The Sowden House in Los Angeles, California, was originally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright Junior, for Hollywood artists and socialites John and Ruth Sowden. The home is described as state of the art decadence with a Mayan temple theme and shark tooth entrance feature and towering wrought iron gates.

This property has been featured in many televised movies due to its unique architectural features and is the nucleus of much conspiracy and historical debate.

The property has an extremely dark and disturbing past. So what sinister events really took place behind these walls?

In 1945 the Sowdens sold the home to Los Angeles physicist Dr Hodel who was known for his continual extra marital love affairs and interest in eroticism. But Dr Hodel was hiding so much more.

Hodel was arrested for atrocities against his own daughter, and suspected of imprisonment, torture and murder of females in his dark dismal basement. Upon his arrest he told police officers 'i was simply delving into the mystery of love'.

His young daughter Tamar escaped the property and informed police that it was an evil den of abuse where here father hosted hedonistic parties and orgies. She described her father as an evil cruel man who had been suspected of killing his own secretary.

Upon investigation police seized hundreds of pornographic photographs, and most sinister was the discovery of human bones and audio recordings of chainbound females being tortured, their screams and the sound of clanking chains can be heard as they struggled for their lives.

Also found were pictures of beautiful actress Elizabeth Short, whose body was found mutilated in a nearby park (The Black Dahlia case in 1947). Was Elizabeth Short captured by Dr Hodel?

Paranormal investigators report extraordinarily high EMF (electromagnetic field) readings and have recorded EVP (electronic voice phenomena) shouting 'evil here'. Many visitors report sighting full body apparitions and dark flitting shadow figures roaming the property. Staff often witness the sound of dragging chains, voices crying out and unexplained running footsteps.

Could this phenomena be a residual haunting as these tragic spirits attempt their escape, over and over again from a supernatural realm?
