St Briavels Castle Brimming with Ghosts | Gloucestershire England | Historical | Paranormal | Haunting | United Kingdom | BoiCGH

St Briavels castle is in Gloucestershire was built by Milo Fitz Walter in 1131 and originally housed its own cellar prison. Dubbed as 'the most haunted castle in England'. Today it runs as a hotel. This castle is rumoured to be 'brimming with ghosts' and is a constant location of interest amongst paranormal investigators and enthusiasts alike.

Local historian Ross Andrews states that the castle has a fascinating history. Milo Fitz Walter was the first maker and creator of the now famous St Briavels cheese and bread products. Milo would toss his homemade goods from the castle window and lucky local peasants would catch the goods.

The castle was also used in medieval times by King John as a hunting lodge. Some visitors claim to have seen phantom horses, whilst other guests claim they were granted access to the main entrance by a tall ghostly man who literally disappears after unlocking the gate! The same solid oak gate which has apparently been subject to terrifying poltergeist activity and been smashed against the wall many times.

When one of the rooms was renovated, the remains of a childs body were found concealed above the roof area. Hundreds of visitors and guests claim they have heard the unexplained cries of a child during the night. The proprietor himself states he has heard the cries.

Many executions took place within the castle and there is a concrete post with eerily engraved notch markings, said to be done by the executioner himself, one notch for each person killed.

The west tower dates back to 13th century and was the old hanging room. Footsteps are heard constantly coming from the hanging room but upon investigation, nothing is there. Could it be echoes of past people walking nervously as they awaited their impending doom.

Some people enjoying drinks in the bar area often ask if the children can keep the noise down when no children are staying. Cries in the night and clanking chain sounds are a routine occurrence here, with many guests checking out early as a result.

Graffiti on the walls, painted by desperate prisoners hundreds of years ago, with words claiming their innocence, and other harsher words of cruel revenge are still visible today.

There is also a famous bed in the castle and its bedsheets literally levitate from the bed frame. Onlookers have quoted 'this is truly disturbing and somewhat alarming to witness'.

The beautifully renovated cellar room, now used as a rustic candle lit restaurant is one of the most haunted rooms, activity includes falling stones which literally fall from nowhere like rain drops, much to the astonishment of diners.

Many refused to believe this phenomena until witnessing it first hand themselves.
