Little Ghost Dog at The George and Pilgrim Hotel | Glastonbury England | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | United Kingdom | BoiCGH

The George & Pilgrim Inn is reportedly Glastonburys most haunted location. Built in 1475 to accommodate wealthy pilgrims and other visitors to the nearby famous Glastonbury Abbey including King Henry VIII, who was here mid 16th century to supervise the burning down of the Abbey in 1184. Later the Abbey would be rebuilt, becoming one of the richest and most powerful monasteries in England.

Throughout the years many staff and guests have reported seeing ghosts here. The current landlords son states that on occasion you can hear extremely loud stomping and banging sounds coming from the cellars, which is even scarier when he has to go down there alone for beer kegs.

One night when in the cellar he heard a loud audible mans voice claim 'ahem' as if clearing the throat. A lady guest says she stayed in one of the rooms in the 80s and she felt a strong and abysmal presence and the room was ice cold.

The landlord states that one evening after locking the doors and cleaning the pub area he left a pint of water on the bar, when he returned to collect the glass there were three metal screws in the bottom of glass.

One of the bar worker claims he was happily pulling pints as usual and a lady came in with a dog, he was about to inform her that no dogs were allowed in the snug area but as she turned to leave, her dog literally disappeared into thin air.

He asked the lady about the dog and she informed him that many people have told her they see a little dog besides her whenever she enters the pub however she does not own a dog!

There is a tunnel which leads to the adjoining Abbey, from the cellars, apparently a monk from the Abbey used to meet a nun in secret in the cellars, their love of course forbidden. Many say it is the his ghost who haunts the cellar causing unexplained bangings and mysterious mists.

TVs spontaneously come on during the night in some guest rooms. One lady said she left her cardigan on a chair and her and her husband both witnessed the cardigans arm physically lift up into the air.

Many guests have caught actual apparitions on photographs taken whilst there.

Past guest Simon Ludgate described how he felt upon entering his hotel room at night. He says it felt as if he had walked in on someone else's party, like when you walk into a crowded room and everybody turns to look at you and stops talking! He felt as if a hundred curious souls were looking right at him.

Richard Thackway, previous pub chef claims they would regularly see a small child playing amongst the kitchen area.

A fascinating place to visit with spectacular history.
