The Ghost Suite at The Omni Shoreham Hotel | Washington DC | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

The Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC was established during the Great Depression, in the 1930s, by Harry Bralove. It became evident that Harry needed help running such a substantial establishment and so he hired a financial advisor, Mr Henry Doherty.

This hotel is today listed on the most Historic Hotels of America Programme run by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Doherty lived in a suite on the top floor with his wife and a live-in housekeeper by the name of Miss Juliette Brown.

One night they discovered that Juliette had passed away in her sleep. There were rumours of suicide and even murder. The family mourned her loss terribly. Missed her laugh. Her smile. Her ever helpful ways. To fill this emotional void the Dohertys decided to adopt a child.

However, this was a very shortlived dream when soon after, Dohertys wife and adopted child also sadly suddenly passed away. Many suggested the hotel was cursed. That Doherty himself was cursed.

Completely alone and utterly heartbroken, Henry continued to live at the hotel. However, soon after burying those he had lost, he began to encounter strange unexplained and, at times truly terrifying phenomena. Invisible forces would speedily run past him with great force.

Could this have been his wife, daughter and maid trying to reconnect from beyond the grave?

Classic residual hauntings emotionally connected to a person or place.

These active moving forces would be so powerful that they would cause curtains to move, active gusts of wind, the touch of something on the skin as the phenomena channelled.

There are continual guest complaints and enquiry regarding unexplained activity within this hotel. Sudden loud bangings and audible conversations. There one common denominator with all these enquiries, the rooms in question are always unoccupied at the time of said complaints.

How can one explain that?

Is it imagination? Is it genuine?

  • Analytical investigation, recording of solid viable evidence is unquestionably the most productive avenue forward because change in temperature and electrical drainage do not come from heresay or imagination, that is factual and physical.

Lights and televisions spontaneously turning on and off is a frequent guest complaint. Also, at 4am which is the hour of Juliettes passing, many have reported audibly hearing furniture being moved about in their room, just like a housekeeper would do.

Perhaps the most unsettling phenomena witnessed here is watching the housekeeper carts moving, unaided, along the hallways!

Is housekeeper Juliette simply tending to her duties albeit from the supernatural realm?

What do you think?

Apparently, staff are fully aware of an entity who actively haunts the very room where Dohertys daughter died. They believe this entity to be the spirit of Dohertys young daughter. They have aptly named this suite The Ghost Suite.

This hotel has 836 rooms to choose from. And can we point out that if your lights fail there is nothing wrong with the hotel electricals.

Are you ready for The Ghost Suite?
