Witchcraft, curses and voodoo. Dark gothic French Quarters, Georgia, New Orleans. Founded in 1718 and notorious for hauntings, a true paranormal hub.

Steeped in history, home of vampires. The slave trade introduced the practice of Voodoo to America, in particular, New Orleans where it was practiced underground, not understood or accepted by general society.

The practice of Voodoo originated in the Caribbean, West Indian and African regions stemming from ancestral religious rituals. The ceremonies conjure the spirits of deities such as Orisha, Loa and Vodun and some still celebrate with a 'Feast Day'.

People were also known to create a voodoo doll or effigy and curses would be attached to them and pins inserted.

It is believed that the spirit of Maria Laveau, the Queen of Voodoo, still roams Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans today, which was where she hosted many sacrificial voodoo ceremonies and hedonistic orgies.

Maria is buried at St. Louis Cemetery and it is believed that if you knock three times on her tombstone, and mark an 'X' on it, she may appear. However her graveside is only accessible via guided tour.

New Orleans is known as the City of the Dead due to its many substantial cemeteries and it is said many voodoo spirits are conjured here. The tv vampire series The Originals was filmed here so if you're a fan head on down.
