We know this location needs no introduction. It doesn't get much more historical than this!

Idaho is home to some truly wonderfully unique sites.

Balanced Rock, the famous landmark near Salmon Falls Creek, will take your breath away at an impressive 48ft tall and weighs in at just over 40 tonnes. What's so special about that? Well, it all balances on a relatively minor 3ft tall base foundation.

But don't worry! This supporting stem has been structurally reinforced and solidified making it architecturally sound (and breathe!).

So how old is this rock? Well you could say it's as 'old as time' itself being a natural 'wind carved' structure initially formed during volcanic eruptions over 15 million years ago.

This is a pretty special sculpture which can never be replicated elsewhere.

Described as one the worlds most aesthetically stunning places. Maybe this is reason there have been so many romantic sunset-hour wedding proposals here!

The wonderful thing about these glorious Idaho sites is that they often take a small role in featuring in our very own historical memories. So, with the perfect family picnic area just a stones throw away at our adjoining Balanced Rock Park area, what are you waiting for?

You can access this area via the Balanced Rock nature trail in Castleford, Idaho, which is a fairly short distance but considerably steep so wear appropriate footwear.
