With a wealth of folklore, the idylic seaside fishing town of Whitby has more than a few tales to tell and is the infamous site of 'The Phantom Carriage of Whitby'.

St Marys Churchyard, lies in the shadows of the great and monumental Whitby Abbey, one of Englands most haunted and atmospheric locations.

When local sailors were buried here many of the local villagers reported witnessing an apparitions of four ghostly black horses pulling a large carriage hearse, which is said to return to the gravesides at night and takes recently buried bodies!

A small group of  mourners are seen to emerge, holding glowing firey torches removing the deceased from their graves! The figure of a cloaked phantom would be seen to crack a whip and off the horses galloped at great speed, pulling the carriage with them, plummeting over the edge of the sea cliffs.

Another Whitby ghoul is that of a so called goblin aptly named 'Hob' (hence hobgoblin) who roams and haunts the streets at night in search of mischief.

Maybe you'll find 'Hob' or witness the stampede of horses as they run to their doom.
