This is THAT place.

Its sheer size, at over 200 acres, has been known to seriously impact and overwhelm people.

Maybe this is why it was selected as the perfect television filming location for the blockbuster hit movie by M Shyamalan movie GLASS a dark psychological thriller (which is a must watch if you have not seen it). This writer also gave us the terrifying horror movie SPLIT.

Welcome to Allentown State Psychiatric Institution in Eastern Pennsylvania. This state hospital closed its doors in 2010 yet its substantial structure still eerily dominates the town and is said to be haunted by many ghosts believed to be spirits of past confined patients.

With only one room emanating any hint of warmth, that being the main central auditorium which has retained its traditional decor quite well, white and sky blue painted fireplaces, marble features intact with hanging chandelier fittings and truly majestic georgian styled windows. Sadly the rest of the building is badly vandalised and in a state of dark decay, a shadow of its former self.

Paranormal teams have been know to flee the area in fear, the activity is so intense.

However, Dr Gregory Smith, a previous Consultant, states how the hospital were one the first American institutions to ban seclusion programmes in order to improve mental health, World Health organisations took this example and followed suit. 

It is believed that a previous Psychotherapist nurse and her lover, who was on the housekeeping staff, plotted together to kill her husband so that they could be together.  However the plot backfired and she was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Many have reported shadow figures walking staircases and multiple light anomalies here. Could this spirit somehow be maintaining an emotional connection to the building ?

Disembodied mumbling voices have often been heard coming from the chapel area, like prayer recitals being echoed through time.
