'Taliesin' in Wisconsin is famous as being home to the once renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959). This impressive state of the art 37,000 estate comprises studio, architecture school and the iconic Tan-y-Deri house. This home has an extremely disturbing history and many believe the site to be actively haunted today. 

Frank moved here with his mistress Martha, whom he had fallen completely in love with, in 1911. Frank requested an annulment from his marriage. Martha had left her husband and Frank requested that she and her two children relocate to the Tan-y-Deri home where they could embark on their future together. However, Franks wife would not sign the papers and tensions ran high.

In August 1914 Frank set off to a business appointment in Chicago. Martha was at the Tan-y-Deri home with her two children and the estate staff. Everyone sat out on the porch for lunch when suddenly one of the staff, Julian Carlton, became violent and asked Martha to leave. He grabbed an axe and began to chase Martha and her children through the home where he then violently took their lives. Julian went on to kill four more individuals who worked at the home that day. 

Julian never gave a motive for the killings and later committed suicide by ingesting acid.

Marthas body was laid to rest here, however the bodies of her children were transported back to Chicago. Many have encountered the full spectrum apparition of Martha in a long white dress, but guests state this entity is non threatening and emanates a peaceful aura. Is Marthas spirit seeking rest as she searches tirelessly for her two unfortunate children who were moved so far away from her in death?

Staff here claim they frequently witness doors and windows spontaneously slamming shut, crying sounds, unexplained fragrances, and small shadowy figures which appear to be children. Could these be the spirits of Marthas two beloved infants returning to the arms of their mother?

The estate now serves as a recognised preservation heritage site. There are tours available from Taliesin so why not visit their website 'Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Centre' and let us know if you experience anything paranormal.
