The New Smyrna Sugar Mill was first established by William dePeyster and Henry Cruger in 1830 as a steam operated sugarcane mill and was originally named the Cruger-dePeyster Plantation.

The mill once thrived in processing refined sugar granules from raw cane from the surrounding fields. Today it is a historically preserved location known as the New Smyrna Sugar Mill Ruins.

This truly is a great place as it has all the things we love. History and hauntings.

During a war between the Seminole Indians and the United States, tensions ran high between tribal communities and on December 25th in 1825 a band of native warriors set fire to the plantation, assisted by many of the slaves held there.

Buildings, crops and homes were destroyed and sadly many lives were lost amidst the blaze.

Many hauntings have been reported here over the years. From audible screams, phantom  gunfire and creepy shadow figures which actively follow guests and visitors.

Many have suggested these shadow figures to be the spirits of the tormented souls who died in the fire here. However, staff warn that some of these spirits are malevolent in nature.

The most frightening phenomena experienced here is the touch of invisible hands as supernatural spectres explore their surroundings. Usually the entities are harmless. However, if you feel anything aggressive it might be time to leave as staff firmly believe that not all of these spirits may not have your best intentions at heart.

Many have spotted a black mass entity which appears to have 'eyes of blood'. 

The sugar mill is open from sunrise to sunset.
