The Sun Stood Still | Happy Solstice Day | Winter Solstice 2021 | Earths Traditions | Community | BoiCGH

Happy Solstice 2021 to all our readers.

Today, December 21st, marks the beginning of Winter Solstice 2021.

What exactly is Winter Solstice?

Today is the first official day of the Winter season.

‘Solstice’ combines the Latin words for ‘sun’ and ‘still’, ‘sol’ and ’sistere’ which means 'the sun stood still'.

Ancient astronomers came to know such days as when the sun ‘stilled’.

This is when the sun appears at its lowest, most southerly, position directly over the Tropic of Capricorn resulting in the shortest day of the year.

From tomorrow, the days will once again become longer, leaving darker days behind us as we approach the magic of spring.

Science, time and nature combine to usher in the astronomical change of season.

Fascinating.

Solstice and Equinox are all about the earths tilt, angle and axis.

The Southern hemisphere is slightly more exposed to the suns rays whilst the Northern hemisphere is less exposed. Hence the temperature shifts, meteorological fluctuation, daylight and seasons change.

It is often suggested that during these extreme moments of atmospheric alteration, that the spiritual veil wears thin, allowing curious spirits an easier path of access to our realm.

SOLSTICES mark the beginnings of either Winter or Summer.

EQUINOX ‘Equi’ meaning ‘equal’ and ‘nox’ meaning ‘night’. Hence Equinox of ‘equal night’. The daylight hours become more ‘equal’ to the night hours.

Equinoxes typically take place in between the solstices and mark the commencement of Spring and Fall.

These events are celebrated Solstice and Equinox by way of festivities being held all around the world.

Solstice is often referred to as 'yule', which is seen as an enchanting time of ‘the rebirthing of the sun as spring comes in’.

Many communities partake in festivities, enjoy candlelight banquets (the candles to honor the sun), families come together around a firepit, and enjoy games and tell time old tales.

Many communities bake gingerbread goods, mulled wines and just enjoy the good company of friends. Others may simply enjoy a candlelit bath.

However you celebrate Solstice this year, make it about family and friends, make it magical.
