Have you ever stood in awe and admired old castle ruins and pondered what they once were?

How they must have looked in all their glory?

Hartford Castle in the small city of Hartford in Illinois, is a nineteenth century ruin of what was once home to French immigrant, Benjamin Bisont, who erected the home in honor of his wife.

Throughout the years, the castle has been utilized as a boys school, a home for unwedded mothers and even as a secret speakeasy during the Prohibition.

The interior of this castle was said to be nothing less than breathtaking.

Fourteen decadently embellished rooms, lavish parlours and sprawling gazebo gardens.

Sadly, soon after, Benjamins wife passed away. He quickly realised it was not his worldly possessions that truly mattered and decided to sell the castle.

A young couple purchased the home with plans to renovate.

Tragically, in 1973 a raging fire destroyed the estate, only shattered rocks remaining.

News quickly spread amongst local communities and the site grew in infamy as a glorified place for those secret parties, and was also a favorite hotspot for paranormal enthusiasts and urban explorers.

Those who dared to venture inside this timeless abode would soon discover they were not alone with many reporting unexplained phenomena.

Apparitions seen silently drifting between rooms, the sounds of a female crying, mysterious light anomalies and the sound of piano notes echoing through corridors have all been encountered here.

Perhaps the most alarming reports are the rocks which have been violently thrown straight through the air narrowly missing the living.

Could there be hostile spirits still residing here? Maybe so, and who could blame them after seeing what their once glorious home is today.

It seems the residual memory of this location is far from forgotten.
