Moonlight Mists | The Cherokee Beauty Who Gave It All Up For Love | Noccalula Falls Park | Gadsden, Alabama | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

Noccalula Falls in Gadsden, Alabama, is a 250 acre park, nature reserve and camping grounds featuring a majestic 90ft waterfall.

Noccalula means ‘the place where water thunders’.

Historically the falls were Black Creek Falls, and legend tells that a Cherokee Chiefs daughter called Noccalula haunts this park today.

Noccalula was described as being of natural ‘astounding beauty’ and many suitors from various tribes pleaded for her hand in marriage. However, Noccalula had her heart set on one particular warrior. Sadly her father rejected him and forced her to marry another suitor.

Heartbroken, Noccalula threw herself to her death when she jumped from the 90 ft waterfall.

Her father honored her memory by naming the cascade Noccalula and erected a replica of her in solid bronze atop the falls.

Visitors have reported sighting the haunting apparition of Noccalula manifesting in mists on the water, on moonlit nights and whenever there appears a rainbow in the skies.

Could Noccalula be forever mourning her lost love?

There is an iron bridge within the reserve with tales of a mother and her baby were killed here.

The childs body was never recovered. Many have described a mysterious spectral light below the bridge almost like the warm glint of a phantom lantern.

Could this spirit mother still be seeking her child?

Today the site is voted best park and campsite in Alabama, featuring a petting zoo, golf course, exploration trails and mysterious caves with original aboriginal carvings from the Civil War on the walls.

On May 12th 1976 the park was honored with a spot on the Alabama Register of Landmarks And Heritage.

November 2011 three whitewater rafter enthusiasts conquered the deep plunge of the waterfalls and were issued citations for violation and disrespect of the sacred cascades. Not only was it prohibited, they also risked their lives.

Dancing light anomalies, strange otherworldly mists and creepy disembodied voices have all been encountered here.

Thousands flock here each year in the hopes of catching a glimpse of Noccalula, the Cherokkee beauty who gave it all up for love.
