The Last Thing Mary Saw (2020)

'Our Father, who art in Heaven... deliver us from evil.'

This film is outstanding and i truly wish more movies were made like this.

'If you allow others to consume you with hatred for yourself ... does evil then become you if you listen to them and live how they tell you to?'

What do you do when the demons you fight, are your own family?

A dark and richly atmospheric period era tale which hypnotically transports you to another world.

This is not a rollercoaster paced film, which is not necessarily a negative. Its mood is consuming, a constant tone of cruelty. This film has been critiqued as 'hauntingly dreamlike, a poetically dark storybook'.

Set in Winter 1843.

Mary, a young woman recites the Lords Prayer.

She has been interrogated at gunpoint, blood drips from her blindfold.

A family who portray painful punishments as morally just, as they nurture wickedness.

So when an opportunity surfaces to change things, she does so, but there will be a price to pay for severing evil ties and great consequences.

Gothic elements, a haunting landscape, beautiful flute music score which elevates to rich sinister tones.

Revenge, betrayal, purposefully claustrophobic cinematography with minimal lighting and use of candles.

Some memorable torturous scenes and good overall tension.

A great cast starring Stephanie Scott as Mary, who played Quinn Brenner in Insidious 3 (2015) and Isabelle Fuhrman who played Ester in Orphan (2009).

I loved this movie and hope you do too.

Stay warm, but more importantly,

Stay Spooky!
