Ham House And Gardens, located along the banks of the River Thames in Londons upper class Richmond district, was first erected in 1610 and owned by Sir William Murray, Senior Marshall to King James I. 

In 1649 Murrays wife, Katherine passed away and the estate was sold to the National Trust with some of the outbuildings being sold privately to investors.

The building was later opened to the public and today offers guided historical and paranormal tours.

The estate is rumored to be actively haunted with many guests swearing never to return.

So just what is going on at Ham House once darkness falls?

Phenomena encountered here has included the ghost of Elizabeth Murray, Duchess of Lauderdale, who once lived and died at the home. Her ghostly face has been captured readily manifesting in the grand hallway mirror.

It is believed that mirrors may act as supernatural portals to the spirit realm so could Elizabeth be actively monitoring the living?

Staff claim they have greeted her with a friendly ‘hello’ but there is never a response, she simply disappears. Elizabeths full spectrum apparition has also been seen, walking various rooms, clicking her walking cane forcibly along the floorboards.

One gentleman who stayed here, with his six year old daughter, claimed a horrific entity which appeared to manifests as an old hag would come through the wall every night leaving his daughter completely terrified. 

There is another tale of a previous employee, John MacFarlan who fell in love with a chamber maid who refused his romantic advances. Heartbroken he jumped to his death from a balcony window. His spirit is seen today pacing up and down the terrace and courtyards.
