Poes Poltergeist At The Horse You Came In On Bar | Baltimore, Maryland | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

The Horse You Came In On Saloon is a bar and restaurant located in Baltimores historical Fell Point district.

Constructed in 1775, this venue takes pride in being Americas oldest, continuously running, saloon which catered to its community before, during and after the prohibition.

The saloon is allegedly the last place legendary poet Edgar Allan Poe was seen coherent before his death.

Poe loved Baltimore and enjoyed relaxing at this bar and his favorite tipple was a fine cognac.

However, on October 3rd, 1849, Poe was seen stumbling down the steps mumbling incoherently and seemingly out of character and somewhat distressed.

Others claim his clothes had been swapped out, he emerged in a different outfit than he entered in. Many believe something underhanded was taking place to bring about his demise and, sadly, his end would prove nigh.

Many speculated his drink had been spiked as he usually held his liquor quite well.

Just four days later, on 7th October, Poe whispered his very last words, "Lord, help my poor soul" and died from brain consumption due to alcohol poisoning.

Good friends, who knew him well, were far from convinced of the accuracy of the Cause of Death report.

In 1972 Howard Gerber purchased the pub and remodelled throughout later reselling it on to todays present owners who honorably maintain the original warm ambience and classic saloon feel of the place.

It is believed this bar is haunted by the spirit of Edgar Allan Poe himself who readily manifests as an angry poltergeist.

And who can blame him, especially if foul play was involved surrounding his death.

This entity is such a regular here that staff often shout out a hello to 'old Eddy' (Edgar) and even leave a glass of cognac at his favorite table.

Visitors often describe witnessing drinks disappearing from tables, unexplainable light anomalies rapidly crossing their line of vision and items being violently thrown.

Others have been physically pushed, grabbed, touched and scratched at.

Is Poe seeking retribution from beyond the grave?
