The Golden Ghost at Powys Castle | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | Wales | BoiCGH

With its enchanting soaring red sandstone walls and fairytale like structure Powys Castle stands majestic.

Home to many a folklore tale and fact alike, the Castle remains an epicentre of intrigue for supernatural enthusiasts.

Dark creepy corridors and tapestry hung rooms are not the only things you'll encounter here.

In 1780 an old spinster visited here in the hopes of earning a little money spinning hemp and flax seeds. The Earl and his family were away on holiday in London, however the servant staff welcomed the spinster inside offering accommodation and employment.

Little did she know that the room they had allocated her to was actually haunted.

On her first night alone she heard the bedroom door being locked from the outside. She considered that maybe the staff simply wanted to deter anyone from free roaming the castle at night, and so sat by the fire to read her Bible.

Minutes later she heard the door unlock and turned to see a man in a golden suit walk into the room. He walked across the room and stared out of the window. She felt he was from another world and became fearful. She prayed for protection. The golden clad man picked up a candle and beckoned her to come follow him.

He lead her to a room where he unfastened the wooden floorboards to reveal a small casket and said to her "send the casket to the Earl of London". He then promised that if she carried out the task he would never appear to her again.

She honoured him and despatched the casket to the Earl immediately. And although the Earl never revealed the caskets contents he swore that the spinster would be looked after, with every luxury, until the day she died.

If ever you are in Wales, why not visit the castle, who knows if the golden phantom still roams the corridors, only one way to find out.
