The Cigar Ghosts At The DeSoto House Hotel | Galena Chicago Illinois | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

The DeSoto House Hotel in Galena, Illinois, boasts the impressive title of the oldest hotel in Chicago. First opened in 1885 by the Galena Hotel Company which was formed by the Galena Central Railroad Company, the building took its name from Hernandez DeSoto who discovered the Mississippi River.

The building was closed in 1870, but not for long.

Just one year later, in 1871 the property was purchased by new owners who renovated and modernised and added a ballroom, arcade shops and parking garages, the venue was reopened to the public.

Employees report the third floor is haunted with an array of disembodied voices and entities which are known to sit on beds leaving clear indentation marks as they do so.

Ulyseus S Grant was fan of this hotel and stayed here during the presidential campaigns.

One employee reports continuously hearing music and voices emanating from unoccupied rooms and countless visitors have described a female apparition ascending the stairwell, leaving a trail of floral perfume lingering in the air as she passes by.

Also reported are ghostly figures who appear to be smoking cigars throughout the premises. It is suggested these are residual hauntings of past guests from when cigar smoking was permitted throughout the building.

There are over fifty five rooms to choose from, are you brave enough to check in?
