Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester New York, is a breathtaking 196 acres of historical pathways, chapel, mausoleum, burial grounds and forests known for its actively morbid hauntings and bizarre unexplained phenomena.

Many travel here just for a chance at glimpsing the paranormal, and many do.

Hundreds of veterans and notable persons of importance are laid to rest here along with many who succumbed to an outbreak of cholera.

There are 600 new burials here each year. In 1980 The Friends Of Mount Hope Cemetery Foundation was established in efforts to maintain the site.

In June 2000 Civil War General Elisha G Marshalls crypt was desecrated by vandals and his remains carelessly scattered. It is rumored that the Generals spirit is perplexed and he angrily roams the site seeking his revenge on those who demonstrated such intolerable behavior.

Visitors have told how they watched floating lights which travel, seemingly with cognition, up and down the surrounding hillsides actively zipping in and out of trees.

Other phenomena includes the sounds of running footsteps and an apparition of ghostly woman who vanishes if you attempt to approach her. This female spectre appears sad and forlorn as if she is lost, and is often seen ominously walking pathways back and forth, all night long.

There is a special burial section dedicated to the orphans who died in the Rochester Asylum inferno. The heartbreaking sounds of children crying and desperate helpless screams can be heard along this trail. This phenomena would be tremendously distressing and clearly upsetting to witness.

Could these be the cries of those innocent orphans whose lives were so tragically taken from them at such tender ages?

Lives gone far too soon.

Are they mourning their fate from beyond their graves today?
