The Ghost Of Ulysses S Grant At The Willard InterConti Hotel | Washington DC | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

The Willard InterConti (Intercontinental) Hotel, in Washington DC, is a historic Beaux-Art (French Neo Classic architecture) hotel located downtown Washington, just two blocks East from the White House.

The hotel was originally six small terraced homes which were built in 1816 by Colonel John Tayloe.

In 1847 the building was purchased by Henry Willard who substantially renovated the building, combining it as one structure, and opened it as The Willard Hotel which today hosts luxury stores and multiple restaurants.

Amongst the notable elite who have stayed at this hotel are Martin Luther King Jr, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant and Mark Twain.

On February 23rd in 1861, amidst numerous assassination threats, Detective Alan Pinkerton smuggled President Abraham Lincoln into the hotel.

It was here in this very hotel that Lincoln took his Oath Of Service to America.

The Willard Hotel has seen its fair share of death and tragedy and is believed haunted by a whole array of spirits from its past.

However it is speculated that the spirit of American General Commander, and 18th United States President (1869 - 1877) Ulysses S Grant is strongly attached to this location on accounts of the sheer number of sightings of his full spectrum apparition.

Many claim to have witnessed Grant sitting casually in the lobby, feet up on a coffee table, with a glass of whisky and cigar in hand, exactly the things he enjoyed in life.

Most terrifyingly, many have encountered rooms suddenly going dark and the feel of breath on the back of their necks.

Staff continually report items disappearing from rooms, extreme cold spots, and the unexplainable aroma of cigar smoke permeating the air.

Is Ulysses S Grant here to stay?
