The Old Jail, located off San Marco Avenue in St Augustine Florida, is a historically restored jail which now runs as a Museum. The jail was first constructed in 1881.

The new jail held over 700 inmates and comprised a maximum security wing, Sheriffs office and exclusive female wing.

Many died here due to illness, neglect, and even murder. The jail was subsequently closed down in 1923 and placed on the National Register of Historical Places.

But this place was not about to give up the ghost just yet (a genuinelly unintended pun).

The building was sold to entrepreneur Henry McDaniel who went on to operate the site as a haunted roadside attraction offering visitors an opportunity to enter the premises at night by way of guided ghost tours.

But be warned!

This location is reportedly haunted by hundreds of restless spirits.

Visitors have encountered a wide array of paranormal phenomena here including the icy touch of unseen hands pulling at ones person, yanking hair and the disturbing sounds of children and women crying emanating from the Womens Unit.

Shadow figures, disembodied dog barks, voices of otherworldly children echoing from beyond, and the creepy rattlings of prison lock up keys, it’s all here at The Old Jail.

Halloween is coming and this would make the perfect seasonal night.
