The Lady Of The Light At Point Vicente Lighthouse Interpretative Center | Ranchos Palos Verdes California | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

The Point Vicente Lighthouse, Ranchos Palos Verdes, California, known as ‘the biggest and brightest light on the Californian coast’ first built in 1926 after many incoming ships collided with the treacherous rocky harbours.

Hundreds of souls were lost to these seas.

Captain George Vancouver officially named the area as Point Vicente during 1790, in honor of his best friend Friar Vicente, during their explorations for England.

This 67ft lighthouse on the Palos Verdes Peninsula has served as a base for many notable rescue operations.

The actual lighthouse makes use of an original Parisian Fresnel glass lens which was shipped from another lighthouse in Alaska.

The Point was manned by untrained civilians until 1939 which was when the United States Coastguard was implemented.

During World War II the light was dimmed in attempts to hide from incoming enemies and black out curtains were pulled over the lighthouse lens to avoid any reflection issues.

In 1980 the lighthouse ceased operation, yet the light itself remains operational. The Point reopened as a historical educational center and was renamed the Point Vicente Interpretative Center in 1984 and offers varied exhibits and informative programs.

The lighthouse is believed to be haunted by a spirit known locally as Lady Of The Light.

So who was she?

Many believe she was the wife of the very first lightkeeper who slipped from the lighthouse upper rail and fell to her death, swallowed up by the unforgiving seas below.

The Lady Of The Light has been seen roaming the dark ominous cliff sides.

Crying sounds coming from the tower at night, mysterious mists, apparitions of fully uniformed sailors and a feeling of completely overwhelming sadness are all phenomena experienced here.
