The Real Blair Witch at Coffin Rock | Real Horrors of Filming Location | Burkittsville Maryland | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

There are never any shortages of tourists, horror lovers and paranormal enthusiasts at this location.

Welcome to Burkittsville, Maryland, the 'real' Blair Witch Project movie location. For a glimpse of the actual filming site you must head about twenty minutes west of town and find Coffin Rock, at Black Hills Forest.

However, this area is so much more than just a filming location, and has its very own, truly disturbing, historical past.

In 1886 Maryland authorities called out a search party to find eight year old Robin Weaver who had disappeared from her home. Are you ready for this?

The child eventually returned home but the search party did not.

Authorities sent yet another, second, search party out. What this second search party discovered will chill you to the bone. The sight presented to them was straight from a horror film.

The bloodied bodies of the first search party were strewn across the rocks and foliage, most of them were bound around the wrists and feet and some had been disembowelled.

Truly merciless killings.

Immediately the search party returned to base requesting back up accompany them to bring those bodies back home. Upon their return they discovered the bodies had vanished. The case remains a mystery to this very day.

So way before the Blair Witch tales ever existed, could it be true that something deeply sinister resides in these forests?

Many believe the story to be nothing more than local legend, others state these are genuine events.

Either way, it attracts thousands of curious visitors annually. Many have expressed a wish to retrace the very steps those search parties took.

How about you?

All we can say is...you better remember your running shoes.
