The Real Bogeyman | Rougarou Legend | Folklore Or Fact | Community | Discussion | BoiCGH

Could There Really Be Monsters In Our Midst?

Is the Bogeyman real?

What we choose to believe in really is, and always will be, our own choice.

Did you know current day, there are continual and increasing reports of sightings of monstrosities which once were once strictly confined to folklore?

The Rougarou

Traditional folklore suggests that this legendary cryptid inhabited swamp regions of Louisiana in the United States.

There is an annual Rougarou Festival held in Louisiana and New Orleans Audobon Zoo boasts an exhibit of a 2ft rougarou statue.

So, is it just folklore?

Rougarou featured in J. K. Rowlings Harry Potter universe as a dangerous dog headed monster.

According to Wandlore, the hair of this eternal beast was used as wand core, by the American Wandmaker Violetta Beauvais. Rougarou hair had an intense affinity to the Dark Arts, in the same way that vampires have an unstoppable thirst and affinity for blood.

Therefore, Beauvais kept the fact that she used this particular wand core a secret for many years but it was, eventually, revealed.

The tale of the rougarou has passed from generation to generation in Louisiana households and originally began in 16th century France as the ‘Loup Garou’ werewolf which was believed responsible for many unexplained crimes including the slaughter of local livestock.

Today the rougarou is speculated as being what we know as the Bogeyman.

They walk either on two, or all four legs with terrifying glowing red eyes.

With such abilities as superhuman strength, shapeshifting and unparalleled hunting tactics what chance do the unsuspecting living truly have to begin with?

If you break the Lent Tradition, beware, because it is told that the rougarou will hunt you down and make you see the error of your ways.

There have been several variations of the rougarou including that of the Native American Wendigo.

Do rougarou have any weaknesses?

All we know is that if you leave 13 small rocks at your door you may bide yourself some precious extra escape time. Because rougarou love sequence, yet are not able to count over 12.

So as they count the rocks, and reach 12, the sequence suddenly stops and they become disorientated and will flee.

So then, could the Bogeyman actually exist?

I don’t know about you, but folklore or not, i’m sleeping with the lights on tonight.

Stay safe.
