The RIP Regiment | Gettysburg Ghosts At The Cashtown Inn | Orrtanna Adams County Pennsylvania | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

Tucked away along the scenic Lincoln highway in Orrtanna, Adams County, Pennsylvania, is the historic Cashtown Inn.

Orrtanna town was established in 1885 around Orr Station which was a designated stop on the Baltimore to Harrisburg railway line.

The inn was constructed in 1797 and was named after Peter Mark, the inns very first keeper who would only accept cash payments, hence the name Cashtown Inn.

Mark was granted a tavern and alcohol licensing order. The room consisted of four welcoming guest rooms and main lobby and dining areas.

In 1863 the buildings basement was once used as a field hospital during the Gettysbury Campaign.

The Confederate war brought in many wounded officers, hundreds of amputations took place here, without anaesthetic.

Sadly many did not make it.

It is said that at times, the piles of discarded body parts got so high that it touched the ceiling.

There were many lives lost at this inn that the very basement which was used as a treatment hospital was later used as a morgue.

This location knows what real pain is.

And if there is one thing we know about pain it is that it takes time to heal.

So it comes as no surprise to discover that this inn hosts a wide range of paranormal activity today.

Guests have reported unexplained knockings on their doors and ice cold presences felt 'slipping' into bed with them at night.

Could theses be the spirits of injured soldiers struggling to move on, are they simply seeking to rest in peace?

Guest room rocking chairs have been rocking on their own, no viable explanation for the rhythmic motion.

Several phantom horses have been sighted around the grounds at night, the sounds of their hooves is frequently heard stampeding through the darkness, accompanied by a ghostly troop of Confederate soldiers.

Many speculate that these soldiers are somehow locked in time, residually repeating their services.

Staff believe they have encountered the spirit of Peter Mark himself, his apparition leans against the front desk casually flipping a coin in one hand.

Today owners Jack and Maria run the inn as a cozy Bed and Breakfast offering a warm welcome, some great history, and top notch cuisine.

Just be prepared for some night visitors.
