The Screaming Banshee of the Tar River | North Carolina | Historical | Paranormal | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

'Banshee : a silent lonely female entity who screams the song of death'.

The Tar River in Carolina, originally known as Old Sparta, flows over a 200 mile stretch through North East Carolina. Historically the river dates back to 1000bc when the surrounding land was inhabited by local tribes and Spanish natives and many settlers engaged in tobacco farming around the river basin.

Boats have travelled this river for centuries with tar laden cargo being distributed around the state via the Tarporo/Pamlico route.

One summer during the 1970s Revolution war a local man, namely David Warner, attempted to set up a millhouse business along the river. His intentions were not well received by the British Red Coat troops who kidnapped and executed him.

Before his death he pleaded for his life, warning the officers that if they proceed they risk imminent death by the river banshee. Of course, they laughed, and shot him regardless.

Legend states that to their horror, they turned and saw the screaming banshee rising from the riverbed, this entity claimed all of their lives and the waters were filled with blood.

Did this act of violence somehow summon a malevolent banshee entity? It is believed by many the banshee haunts the river to this very day.

The river is extremely popular with outdoor enthusiasts and currently open for public use. Many visitors have reported witnessing terrifying apparitions of the horrific shrieking female banshee. Others have stated experiencing phenomena such as creepy mysterious light anomalies, disturbing wailing and crying sounds and unexplained disturbances upon the waters.

Could this be the banshee observing the river today?
