The Spirit Spectators | If Looks Could Kill | The Woodstock Opera House | Woodstock, Illinois | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

The Woodstock Opera House in Woodstock, Illinois, is a historic Performing Arts venue.

The building gained fame when it was featured in the 1993 movie Groundhog Day as the fictional Pennsylvania Hotel.

Historically, the building was constructed in 1889 consisting of library, justice court, fire department and performance auditorium.

During 1972 the building was declared as an official city landmark.

In 2013 the opera house stage was dedicated to American Actor and Director Orson Welles who grew up in the neighborhood and performed here on multiple occasions.

The most famous tale surrounding this location involves a past female actress, named Elvira, who took her own life by jumping from the opera house belltower after being refused a part in a leading ballet performance.

Elvira has been seen to manifest as a stunning blonde bombshell who proceeds to intentionally, and menacingly, stare the living in the eyes with a ‘look that could kill’, before vanishing as a mist moments after detection.

If you fancy your chances at glimpsing the paranormal, just ask for Seat DD113 as this was known to be Elviras very own seat and is seen today unexplainably lowering, and raising, unaided.

This is not the only seat which seems supernaturally affected as, very often, whole rows of seats will be found erratically moving throughout the night.

Could these seats actually be occupied by spiritual spectators?

Audience members have reported hearing unsettling audible disembodied sighs and breathing being whispered into their ears, almost as if to distract from the on stage performances.

Actors today have described mysterious phenomena including stage props suddenly disappearing mid performance and later reappearing in unexpected rooms.

Enjoy the show!
