Slumbering Spirits At Mansion Fit For A King | The Vanderbilts At The Breakers Mansion And Visitor Center | Newport, Rhode Island | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

The Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island, is a gilded aged mansion, and hailed as the most opulent, finest architectured, building in the whole of the State.

Historically, the home was first erected, in 1878, by Piere Lorillard IV and purchased by Cornelius Vanderbilt II in 1885 who named it as The Breakers and used it as a family summer home. Cornelius and Alice Vanderbilt were married in 1867 and had seven children.

Tragically, a fire broke out at the mansion in 1892, burning it to the ground.

The Vanderbilts hired the very highest standard American and European workmen who specialized in finest craftmanship and worked tirelessly, using fire resistant materials, to reconstruct the whole estate from scratch.

Sadly Cornelius passed away from a stroke, at age just 55, shortly after the mansions completion.

The home was hence left under the care of his wife Alice Vanderbilt.

Upon the death of Alice, her grand-daughter, Silvia, became proprietor and remained on site for her lifes duration. Upon Silvias passing, Newport County Preservation Society overtook ownership.

The Breakers is open to the public today, showcasing its rich history, and welcomes guided educational tours.

Visitors have reported a mesmerizing female spirit, dressed in a beautiful late 1800s period era dress, quietly roaming the property. It is believed this spectre is Silvia Vanderbilt herself keeping a close watch over activities at the family home.

Strange occurrences, including objects spontaneously moving unaided, furniture mysteriously being rearranged and random cold spots felt throughout the estate, are all phenomena encountered here.

However, as active as this location is, the Vanderbilt heirs today have stated that they will always decline any paranormal investigational requests, out of respect to the dead. They believe that the spirits here are all too aware of spectators and do not wish to disturb their slumbering ancestors.

What do you think?

Should resting spirits be left to slumber undisturbed?

The home today is a glorious Italian Palazzo themed abode which, quite literally, will take your breath away as you step inside. It is often said this home is 'fit for a King'.

Baccarat crystal chandeliers, 50ft high ceilings, a billiard room featuring individually hand-set mosaic tiles, 27 fireplaces and 48 luxurious guest rooms.

Decadence awaits you. Are you ready?
