Unfinished Business At Berkeley Springs Castle | The Spirits Who Stayed | Berkeley Springs Castle |Berkeley Springs, West Virginia | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

THIS IS PRIVATELY OWNED PROPERTY

On a hill overlooking the town of Bath, in West Virginia, is the Berkeley Springs Castle, also known as The Samuel Tate Suit Cottage. This historic home is constructed entirely of native sandstone and is the only Norman castle in the whole of the United States.

In 1885 Colonel Samuel Taylor Suit laid the first foundations of what would become his family home. Tragically, during 1888, Samuel passed away leaving his wife Rosa and three young children behind.

After her husbands death, Rosa subsequently embarked on two romantic interests, both men suddenly died mysterious deaths with one being horrifically impaled on a parasol and the other falling from a rooftop.

One can’t help but wonder if those were coincidence or if the spirit of Samuel played a hand in those events.

As time went on, Rosa fell upon financial hardships and in 1923 was sold to George Cunningham. This prestigious castle was used as many things including a dance hall, a base for the Montevista Boys Camp and a retreat for aspiring artists and writers.

In 1954 Walter Bird purchased the estate offering historical tours and sharing tales of the homes haunted history. The castle drew much attention and became a notable and successful tourist attraction.

In 2020 the Brimlow family purchased the castle which today remains privately owned property. However, there are rumors, and hopes, of it being reopened to the public. The Brimlow family have expressed interest in this venture.

Past residents have confirmed the castle to be infested by spirits. There are many tales of phenomena including footsteps from empty rooms, creepy disembodied voices echoing through hallways and items seen physically levitating mid air.

Latched and locked doors have been seen spontaneously opening and loud bangings heard from empty upper floors.

The most fascinating phenomena encountered here is the apparition of a ghostly little girl seen playing about the premises. The girl is accompanied by an older gentleman who many believe to be Samuel Tate Suit himself.

One tale tells that Samuels death was not natural, but that Rosa actually poisoned him slowly but surely.

Sometimes spirits linger because they have unfinished business, a tale to tell, a secret to reveal, a message to communicate.

And Berkeley Castle is just full of secrets, wouldn't you agree?
