Where Ghosts Come Out To Play | The Morris Jumel Mansion | Washington Heights | Manhattan New York | Paranormal | Historical | Haunting | America | BoiCGH

The Morris Jumel Mansion, located in Washington Heights New York, is a spectacular historical mansion widely known as ‘the place where ghosts come out to play’.

The Morris Jumel Mansion was built before the Revolutionary War, during 1765, and is Washingtons oldest surviving original mansion. Once home to Lyn Manuel Miranda who was the writer of the production ‘Hamilton’.

The mansion has also been home to President George Washington (1789 to 1787) and Solomon Northup who wrote ‘12 Times A Slave’.

Built on original Lenape land for British Colonel Roger Moss and his expanding family who used it as a summer home. The home was also used a war headquarters. In 1810 the mansion was purchased by Eliizah Jumel and her husband Stephen who was a wealthy wine merchant.

Sadly Stephen died and Elizah went on to marry former Vice President, Aaron Burr.

Elizah and her first husband both passed away inside this house.

This home holds some spectacular views of Manhattan, but it’s what’s inside the house that interests me.

Disembodied voices, objects moving and varied activity especially in the bedrooms are all phenomena experienced here.

Since the early 1800s there have been many reports of hauntings here with many speculating that Eliza, Stephen and Elizas grandchildren, whom she would often take care of, still linger here in spirit.

During the 1960s a school group was playing on the lawn waiting to go inside the house and they said a woman came out onto the upper balcony and said ‘Shush!’ and returned back inside.

Staff claim that the room was Elizahs old bedroom where she used to babysit her young grandchildren.

Could Elizah be haunting the mansion today, warning folks to ‘hush’ whilst her grandchildren supernaturally rest?

Spirits will often tap into energy sources in order to manifest, which seems to happen quite frequently at the mansion.

Paranormal teams who have investigated here stated they captured some truly creepy EVP (electronic voice phenomena) which sounded like a woman screaming ‘he’ll laugh at you’ and ‘he doesn’t love you’.

This venue welcomes all enquiries and offers paranormal and historical tours today.

Halloween is coming!
