A Botanical Walk Through History | Hobo Cedar Grove Botanical | Magical Landmarks | Clarkia County, Idaho | Historical | Heritage | Community | BoiCGH

It seems many families are searching for historical and educational places of interest to take children for family day trips.

Recently we posted on the Emerald Creek Star Garnet Recreational site where one can sluice for gems, and many appreciated that. See our linked article below.

Another wonderful family place would be the Hobo Cedar Grove in Clarkia, Idaho, located in the St. Joe National Forest.

A perfect botanical oasis, spanning over 240 acres, likened to a magical forestland where trees drink from running springs.

Ancient forests filled with secret nature trails, excellent for children and a great learning and educational experience too!

There are trees here which are more than 500 years old, some were just seedlings when Columbus discovered America! There are also actual remains of a historical lumber camp and an original built steam donkey still in place.

This location offers a literal 'walk through history' and there are relevant well documented historical artefacts throughout.

Many have described this landmark as 'one of the most peaceful and scenic sites in Idaho with great nostalgic atmosphere'.

There are various camping facilities within the areas between St Maries and Clarkia and this site offers a lovely cedar wooded picnic area.

Might we also mention that St Maries is where the Star Garnet Recreation site is, so maybe a camping weekend would effectively be a great opportunity to visit both sites.

Surely a great family day outing making memories.

History in our hands.
