There seems to be an area that isnt discussed much maybe as a result of its dark nature, and although not practised much in our day still many are inquisitive regarding the topic of 'exorcism'.

There are questions which demand answers and that's precisely why we are here!

WHAT IS EXORCISM?

Exorcism is the practice of evicting or casting out spiritual entity or entities from an individual believed to be demonically possessed.

Possession is when a person is being unwillingly manipulated by demonic forces which often results in harm whether it be physically, mentally or emotionally.

HOW IS AN EXORCISM PERFORMED?

Generally the person conducting the exorcism will use loud audible prayer and specific hand gestures. Amulets, crucifix or rosary are held.

It is often recommended the affected individual is restrained so as not to injure themselves or others although this is not mandatory.

During the medieval era the BENEDICTINE 'VADE RETRO SATANA' (meaning 'flee from us / deliver us') was quoted which basically states 'GO BACK SATAN!'

The VADE RETRO SATANA is often compared with the words Jesus said to Peter in {Vulgate New Testament} Mark 8:33 (get behind me satan).

It is believed by the priest or christian elder performing the ritual that their authority and power to conduct and eliminate such forces comes directly from God the Father Son and Holy Spirit himself who is grants them power to cast out such entities.

THE CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA states that King Saul was tormented by an 'evil spirit' (1 Samuel 16:14).

THE JEWISH ENCYCLOPEDIA states that 'Jesus was devoted devoted to casting out demons'.

ST CYRIL OF JERUSALEM of the Early Church wrote 'receive exorcisms with devotion and purify the soul!'.

THE LUTHERAN CHURCH reference Jesus casting out demons by simple command (Mark 1:23) (Luke 11:14) (Acts 19:11) and the act of exorcism was written into most Lutherian Service books just after 1526 after the Protestant Reformation.

THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND - ANGLICAN

During 1974 every Diocese in England was equipped with a trained 'Exorcism & Psychiatry' team. Although Anglican priests must be granted permission to proceed from a Bishop.

Many biblical scholars believe that all demons are the very entities spoken of by the Archangel Michael (Daniel 12:1) and (Revelation 12) when Satan and his angels were cast down to earth (known as 'The fall from Paradise'). 

CATHOLOCISM 

In 1999 the Catholic Church revised the 'Rite of Exorcism' stating that the act of exorcism is an extremely dangerous task. The document 'Of Exorcisms and Supplications' being often used as innvocation. However today it is rare a Catholic priest authorises exorcism and they would generally recommend mental or physical evaluation first.

The book 'Possessed - The True Story of an Exorcism' by Thomas Allen is the factual account of the events which portrayed the famous 1973 'The Exorcist' box office smash hit movie about a 12 year old girl who becomes violently possessed by the devil. (Not for the faint hearted).

The Amityville home known as 'The Amityville Horror' movie in 1979 was based upon true events where the actual building was exorcised by a priest who fled the property fearing for his life the home was so severely demonically possessed.

The movie franchaise 'The Conjuring' is based on real life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren who share actual happenings and events.

The movie 'The Entity' starring Barbera Hershey retells the events of a vicious demonic attack suffered in the 70s by Doris Blither a single mum with four children who claimed she was being violently raped and tormented by multiple entities at night.

The movie 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' is another true life portrayal of a 1975 possession and exorcism of a German lady Anneliese Michel who underwent 67 Catholic exorcisms in total. 

'The Haunting of Connecticut' is a movie retelling the real life case of Carmen Snedeker (investigated by Ed and Lorraine Warren mentioned above). The family claim they came face to face with real demons walking around the mortuary area. The family relocated after much effort and exorcism attempts proved unsuccessful.

Sam Raimis 2012 production 'The Possession' centres on the true events of a young girl who was followed by a malevolent spirit. The movie director Ole Bornedal claims there were many unexplained and frightening occurences which took place during the making of the movie.

Jesus commanded His followers to 'cast out evil spirits in His name' (Mark 3:15).

NEVER underestimate the power of evil forces. Such forces are very real and much prayer and caution should be used when looking into such matters.
