Friday the 13th | Paranormal | Community | Informational | BoiCGH

Its Friday 13th!

So we thought why not indulge in some topical facts, fun and just downright creepy.

The number 13 is said to be linked to ill omen, betrayal and bad luck, with spells and curses being extra potent on this day.

You may be asking why friday 13th became such a feared and superstitious day?

According to ancient Norse myth, 12 gods sat down to dinner. However there was a 13th 'uninvited' guest, the feared and mischievous Loki who instructed that mistletoe tipped arrows be fired to earth, destroying joy and kindness, and introducing darkness.

There is even a biblical reference to the number 13 being unlucky. Judas, the apostle who betrayed Jesus was the 13th guest at the table of the last supper.

In 1306 on friday 13th King Philip of France arrested the Knights Templar and set about torturing them.

In ancient Rome, it is said witches and warlocks gather in groups of 12 and 13.

In British tradition, friday was originally the day for public hangings and Capital punishments.

It is believed that the temptation of Adam, Noah's flood, the confusion at the Tower of Babel, and the death of Jesus all took place on a friday.

It is said that names with 13 letters harbour bad luck. Here are some noteworthy ones.

Charles Manson

Jack the Ripper

Jeffrey Dahmer

Theodore Bundy

Albert De Salvo

From the team at Boise City Ghost Hunters, stay safe and have a safe 13th.

Because, as we already know, it is unlucky for some.
